In 30 years' reform and opening-up, the structure of aquatic industry of Qinhuangdao has realized a fundamental shift from fishing to breeding. The yield of aquatic products has increased significantly.
According to introduction, the aquaculture of Qinhuangdao started from the middle of 1980s. The products were shrimp culture at the beginning and the scallop culture, kelp culture and sea cucumber culture have developed later. After more than ten years' screening, selection and renovation, the scallop culture has become the main products of aquaculture of Qinhuangdao. Now, the aquaculture area of Qinhuangdao has reached 520,000 mu, which rank the first in China.
At present, the average net income per fisherman is about 7000 yuan and the added value of aquatic industry is account for above 10% of the added value of agriculture of Qinhuangdao. The aquatic products have reached 340,000 tons, which is nearly 40 times as many as the yield of before the stage of reform and opening-up.
