The old Dragon's Head
Located 5 km to the south of ancient Shanhaiguan city, on the beach of Bohai Sea, the Old Dragon’s Head is the eastern end of the Great Wall. It was built during the Wanli Rein of Ming Dynasty by General Qi Jiguang. The site was perfectly selected and the complex in peculiar architectural design is highly regarded as “a wonder in human history ”. The Old Dragon’s Head extends 47 hectares, consisting 7 parts: Ninghai City, stone works in the sea, Chenghai Tower, Southern Sea Pass, Longwu Barracks and Sea God Temple. Ninghai City is a crucial part of the defense works and the most complete and scaled military camp of the Ming Dynasty. Standing on Chenghai Tower, you’ll see to the south the endless sea rolling and waving to meet the sky, and to the north the Great Wall stretching along to distant mountains with beacon towers standing one next to another along with line until you see no more.
